Say hello to Alice the alley cat - the girls and I found her last Wednesday on a walk behind the local high school, literally in an alleyway. As you can see, her ear appears to be ruined, but we'll see how it responds to treatment. She's emaciated and weak, 5.7 lbs., hugely friendly. We came back on Thursday to get her but it was raining and she was nowhere to be found. Went again Friday around 3:30 after I was out of work and found her. We put her in the cat carrier and took her straight to the vet. She's clear of feline leukemia and other worrisome diseases, since I have other animals and couldn't have her around them until she was cleared. She has a bacterial infection of the ear. She sleeps a lot and eats and knows how to use a litter pan. She's so friendly that she's had to be a pet at one time.

Last Tuesday morning, in the dark at 6 am, I heard a kitten. A baby, tiny little mewling going on outside my window, so I went outside and tried to find it. It hissed and ran off into the back yard, so I followed it. It hid under a ladder lying on its side against the house, and it spat at me, so very small and scared. I tried to bring it food, but I didn't even know if it ate real food yet. It took off.

I tried again, and later my husband tried, and then tried again. I was worried it was getting dehydrated. By then it was three doors down. It was around 5 pm the next day and it was snoozing on a rock. Hubby got the little thing this time. We took it in and bathed it and fed it. It ate canned food pretty well.

Now we've bought some kitten formula replacement for it. It's adorable. I'll probably post a photo of it before long. I was so worried it'd get too cold or starve. It was crazy how worried I was. I think Dave heard it in my voice and he tried really hard to rescue it.

Now we're up feeding the little devil and taking it to the bathroom in the middle of the night, babies being babies. The whole family is wrapped around its weensy little paws.

As if I needed another cat (and believe me, that's what the other cats are saying). But really I don't care in the least. I'm so glad it's all right.
