Remember me talking about my thirteen year-old dog? We walk everyday. We've had a rottweiler come across a busy street after us. We've had a dog come clawing out from UNDER his fence to go after my old girl. One time it was a German shep. Once a bunch of dogs (five, I think) broke out of their backyard fence and swarmed us. We've even had two tiny dachsunds come out yapping and barking around us until Thump took each one, picked them up and tossed them gently away - with her long-ass nose, no less.

And this Monday my favorite: a pit bull. I almost pissed myself. She came running down the hill. I looked around for a branch or something but there was nothing. She crossed the road and jumped on Thumper. At first the dog didn't bite, but she was all over Thumper. Thumper growled and it set the dog off and that was it, they were fighting. It was scary seeing the pit bull go for Thumper's underbelly. Of course my dog was no match. Thumper pulled out of her collar at that point, and I whipped the pit bull in the head with the collar and leash several times. I think I kicked a little - it was hard because she was all over my dog.

And then imagine this, flist: the owner comes down the hill and YELLS AT ME FOR HITTING HER TWATTYASS DOG.

Turns out her TWO-YEAR old had let the dog out, and the dog never bites. Yeah. I hope to God her child has a face come next year.

She didn't like me, evidently - at the end of it all, she said she hoped I had fun jumping all over a twenty-one year old like that, to just go ahead, go on and take care of myself and my dog.

Thumper's okay, by the way. I checked her out. She just seemed pretty tired afterwards.

What the hell? Aren't there leash laws for twenty-one year olds?

When I buried her body in my backyard, I took another look. I could have sworn she was thirty at least.

phew - scary. - There's just been a 3 1/2 month baby killed by two pet dogs (staffordshire bull terrier and a jack russell) - os the thought of this woman allowing a 2 year old to be unsupervised with a pitbull is very scary.

I'm glad neither you or Thumper were hurt. I hope you buried Missy well and didn't forget the lime.

I know a lady with a couple of pit bulls, and I like the dogs, but I wouldn't have my kids around them all the time. There's just been too many attacks.

*I"m glad neither you or Thumper were hurt.*

Thanks. It's gotten to the point where I get shooke up with this stuff pretty badly.

We had a similar situation with Merlin a while ago. Merlin is one of the friendliest dogs you can imagine. One day, two women went past our house with a husky. Merlin was in the garden with my nephew and got loose. He went to the husky with wagging tail, wanting to play with him. The husky turned around and bit Merlin viciously in the head. Without warning. It didn't help that one of the women took a shoe and hit Merlin on his head again and again. That was the point when our usually friendly dog saw red. I've never seen him like that. If my mom and I hadn't pulled them apart (which was dangerous in itself) I'm pretty sure that one of the dogs would have killed each other.
Okay - it was our dog who was loose, but THEIR husky had started the fight and had bitten our dog. Oh the drama. You have no idea.

Anyway, my point: it's stupid to say "my dog doesn't bite". You can NEVER look into the head of an animal. I do hope that child of hers won't pay the price for the immense stupidity of that person. And how rude of her to yell at you when it was HER dog that was loose! Sheesh! :(

But this one is a pit bull, right, and I think it's wise for an owner to be extra careful there. But sometimes a dog gets loose, yeah. Thumper did when she was younger and ran down the walk, scaring an old lady.

But to scream at me afterwards, wasn't that just unbelievable?

I can't understand how people can possibly think that a pit bull terrier and small children go along well. :/
Merlin is a golden retriever and they're among the most gentle dogs you can find. But I wouldn't let any dog alone with small children, no matter if it was a pit bull or a goldie!
And it her screaming at you when it was HER fault? Excuse me?
I hope you buried her deep enough. Seriously.

They always look older once they're dead. *shrugs*

Well, she actually never takes the dog out; her two-year old does it for her... And there's no leash laws for two-year olds! =D
