question re: SPN 4.10

Some of my lovely flist has already tried discussing this on a prior post, but nobody seemed to come to a conclusion. So: the dream scene between Uriel and Dean. Brave, reckless Dean first calls Uriel's bluff to return him to hell, potentially sacrificing himself for everyone else. When the threat failed, Uriel pulls another nasty trick: you get a choice, save either Anna or Sam. So apparently Dean tells Uriel where to find Anna, right?

Then we found out that it was all part of Sam's plan to get angels and demons together and butt heads. I can see the part where Ruby talked with Alastair was part of a PLAN (and woe to Ruby, talk about collateral damage). But how could anyone have planned Uriel would infiltrate Dean's dream? I don't see it. Did I miss something? Or was the plan hatched AFTER the dream? Say Dean woke up and told Sam what happened (ha! as if, but whatever) and then Sam said, well, let's make sure the demons show up as well.

So either the dream scene wasn't part of the plan initially and Dean gave up Anna for real, OR the boys somehow knew and expected that Uriel would get to Dean. How so? They had Ruby's protection hex bags or whatever they were.  What did I miss? Enlighten me.

EDITED to fix brain farts. I really hate the idea of 'brain farts.' But whatever..

I don't know what you mean - the only dream was between Uriel and Dean, not Alaistair and Dean. You mean Uriel, right?

The angels had contacted Dean before, so I think the boys could have anticipated they would again. The angels were threatening to throw Dean into Hell unless the boys gave up Anna - obviously, the angels intended to contact either Dean or Sam so that Dean or Sam could give them the info - no point to a threat, otherwise. So all Dean and Sam had to do was wait.

yes, I meant Uriel. I should seriously stop posting to LJ - I have obvious brain spatter. I'm always putting the wrong word/name in lately, and I'm not sure why.

But what with the hex bags protecting Sam, Dean, Anna and Ruby's location, I couldn't see how they'd know the angels could contact them at all. Though yes, I see your point that it has precedent. It still sounds like an iffy plan to me, to rely on that. My husband said the same thing, though - that it was a matter of time.

From what I saw, Uriel only infiltrated
Dean's dream. And I thought that
it was quite interesting that Dean
realized it was a dream. Methinks
that Dean is definitely got some kind
of power that hasn't been brought up
yet or Cas is really protecting Dean in
ways that other angels can't figure out.

Dean is more special than the viewer
thought after this episode. I like to think
that Dean, when given the ultimatum
Sam for Anna there was no way no question.
Its Sam all the way. After all they've been
through? They got a mission and they
won't stop until they can both walk away
from all this demon shit until they get that
sign "Its over, you both can live a normal
life again." Still though if things work out
for them both, are they going to be truly
all right?

I predict Ruby is gonna try to break them up.
Her comments to Sam about he's getting flabby
and outta shape in regards to his powers clues
you in on what this devious chick is up to.
Damn I can't believe we gotta wait two months
to find out what happens next. So unfair.

Isn't Alistair or Alastair such
an obnoxious queen? Don't you think so?
Sam and Dean are getting a lot of recurring
bad guys thrown their way this season
don't you think?

First there's Castiel who's dangling Sam's life
over Dean's head everytime they meet then Ruby
the Cock-Blocking Demon chick and Uriel
who's really rude and always threatening them
both and now Alastair the S&M queen from hell.

I wonder if the series is going to pick up
right after the showdown or is time going to
have passed like the time of this hiatus?

The others are right: only Uriel was in Dean's dream, not Alistair. I'm surprised it wasn't Castiel, but the boys knew that the angels were definitely looking for them. If they hadn't done the dream thing, I suspect Dean would have 'allowed' Castiel and Uriel to 'find' him just as Ruby allowed Alistair to find her. I'm not really surprised that Dean knew it was a dream: they've done 'dream walking' before and I think Castiel approached him in a dream (the whole 'back to the future' thing seemed to be a dream to me. Uriel tells Dean that they can do without him, so I'm not sure if he is lying or if indeed Dean isn't that special. I think there is 'something' about him that God saw as necessary for the fight, but it is hard to say what exactly that is: his leadership skills, his knowledge of demons or his relationship with Sam, or something else totally.

Oh you know I totally forgot about the fact
that Dean's dreamwalked before when he had
to rescue Bobby in S3. Still its pretty interesting
that he picked up on it so fast without the use
of the special drug. So where was he really
when he walks into the barn and Uriel just shows
up? I think he was in the back of the Impala
snoozing with Anna.
