It's been awhile, so I thought an "I'm alive" post might do.

this: http://www.yuletidetreasure.org/  "The Obscure Fandom Secret Santa Project" - tons of stories, many fairly short, but it looks like there's some keepers. Blood Ties has five stories. Starsky and Hutch is not represented (I would have figured since it's 30 years old and not a huge fandom, it might make it in - Star Trek TOS and TNG did - but I have a sneaking feeling we S&Hers are SO not cool). Dante's Cove was of course not represented. I think maybe I am altogether SO NOT COOL. Who knew?

On the plus side, there's a story based on Richard Bachman's (aka Stephen King) "The Long Walk," one of my SK favorites (if not THE favorite) and it looks like it goes slashy:)

Have you ever been involved in a fandom that you're unimpressed with? Well, of course you have, but have you been in one where, if you were to describe the fandom as a whole, is not, er, particularly pleasing? As in, unimaginative, uninspired? Or maybe too young? Or they squeal A LOT and it gets on your nerves? Just asking.

I have backed away from participating actively in fandom. You may or may not have noticed. I am at yet another of my many crossroads in life. What do I want to do, how to do it, to find time and to find room to breathe? Or just give up a little and flow with the tide? How does what I want matter to others around me, and do I force it if I have to? Do I have the energy and inclination for that?

I am an outsider, which isn't all bad in that I don't mind if I see things differently from a lot of other people, really. But I am an outsider in fandom, too. No real surprise. I don't do the socializing very well. It's all very complex.

Nik and other friends I haven't responded to lately: I'm sorry and I will, I want to. I value you so much, though at the moment it may not seem that way. But things, they keep changing. Or maybe I do. Tough to keep up. I value my flist and enjoy reading what's going on with them. You are old, comfortable shoes.

That was a compliment. Trust me.

sneaks up behind you and...

*GLOMP*

I love ya anyway ya want to be. And, of course, I'm interested in whatever snippets of words you throw my way.

As one outsider to another, it's cool. This is a unique place that even I've found a measure of acceptance in. And believe me, such places are rare, indeed. So post when you feel like it. I'm still here, and I'll be listening.

Oh honey you are SO COOL. Don't ever think otherwise.

I hope you figure all the stuff out--or if you don't (since really, do we ever? I think that at least for me the key to happiness is not minding having very little clue about anything *g*) that you at least enjoy the process. And you know, if you post an "am alive" I'll jump up and scream SHE'S ALIVE! and maybe glomp you virtually.

*glomps you virtually*

aw, Sal:) So nice to see you. I saw you released your lovely S&H story out onto the world- meant to say something but didn't. If you want me to host that one and the other ones in the zine, jus say the word, okay? It'd be an honor.

I read your good news, too - see? I sorta keep up. Unanimous vote, wahoo, Prof! I know you deserve it and everything else good:)

Starsky and Hutch is not represented

I wouldn't consider SH an obscure fandom, though...maybe that's why it wasn't represented?

I've gone through a fandom cycle lately where I've grown comfortable with SH, but I use SGA for my active "omg, this is awesome, let's discuss it!" needs. With SH, I can have deep discussions on things I've noticed over 8-9 years of being with the boys, whereas with SGA I am the newbie so I can discover things for the first time. I need that balance sometimes :)

but my point was that I don't consider ST TOS or NG to be obscure, either, yet they're there.

I know about you and SGA - seen you posting with the big eyes for that fandom. New fandom rush, yum:)

Well, I wouldn't expect ST to be included in the obscure fandoms either (which makes me feel like they're misplaced rather than feeling SH was excluded). I wish SH was involved in more multi-fandom projects, though. It would help keep the fandom interest higher. I keep trying to convey the thought, but so far it's been met with silence.

agreed, as Picard would say, on all accounts.
Jeez, I'm corny.

There's nothing wrong with being on the outside. The air is fresher, for one thing. :-)

Oops! I wasn't logged in when I posted that "anonymous" message above. In case you filter out the "Anons" in your LJ world, here's what I said (with not nearly enough forethought):

I also fear the hoomans.

You, I love.

Oh Kass... you know we'll be there whenever you decide to re-emerge into our lives... just enjoy the break. I'll never forget how you held our hands during the zine-from-hell... we owe you plenty.

Aud, you and some of the others around here make me a happy camper. I'll be around, just don't know what's around the corner, but who does, really? And I hope we remain "friended" for a hellaciously long time so I can keep up with you and yours - even if I don't always appear to be around that much:)

As an old person involved in HP fandom ... oh yes. Though I wouldn't describe the fandom as a whole as uninspired, there's a LOT of 13-year-old girls who drink too much soda going on there. One can only flee.

And re: the fannish ennui? Happens to a lot of people. It's just life. :-) I've found that, ultimately, you keep in touch with the people you really want to.

oh sweetie, so very very glad to see you're still "alive"
I understand you so well. I don't socialize very well either, always looking in from the outside and I can understand your point completely, I've felt the same way very often (still do, that's why I have been so often offline in the past 6 months when life gets to me soo much or I'll work myself into a needed break). No matter which way you'll choose, if you'll still be here from time to time, I'll be there. Change is good, just don't change too much of yourself, from what I can tell, you're a wonderful person already, whom I value so much.

And you know what, I like my old comfy shoes the most, too so I'm pleased to finally being one ;)
