Wow. I wrote a comment to a writer for the Blood Ties show at his blog - my reaction to his SHUDDERING over fan fiction and how bad he proclaims it to be. Rowr, next thing I know, he's off stomping on the bones of all of us fan fiction (SHUDDER!) writers. Here's the link if interested in the trivial drivel:

Just. What. An. Asshole.

What a maroon. ::rolls eyes:: I'm sorry, but for someone who writes for a show that's based on a series of books, he's got nooooo leg to stand on.

Idjit.

What bothered me is that he can't see that most people do it simply because they love the show and are excited by it. Even if we are malformed dweeb dog fornicators;)

I know. It's like he read a list of "common misconceptions about fanfic" and then proceeded to use every single one of them!

I write fanfic because I like the characters and it's fun. That's it. End of story.

Oh, and don't even *get* me started on the "all fanfic is crap" bullshit, because that I'll start foaming at the mouth and that's bad for the laptop keyboard...

Yeah, I think it insults me and you and anyone who likes to read fan fiction and our perception of what's good. Sure, there's plenty of stuff out there you can pick on. I can also pick on plenty of pro fiction. What's the point? He talks about fandoms out there putting down and trying to fix things they think writers do wrong, and meanwhile he's busily doing the very same thing to us.
Blech.
Go ahead. Foam. Just not over the keyboard:)))

ooooh yes, that was quite good too, now that you mention it! How on earth did I forget to mention it?

He deserves our sympathy...

...clearly his mother was a fan who once denied him a new PS2 game on account of having spent the money on a zine-- OMG, my son got a job in TV? Where was I when that happened? (Probably at a Con...)

Yeah, it was a good message, Aud. It's hard not to let that sort of thing get to you. But hey, it's all tongue in cheek, so why get offended? Except, BULLSHIT.

I'm still just amazed that the idea that we love certain shows and want to share in the creativity of that for fun and for the love of it - that idea is so LOST (or it just doesn't seem to matter)in the shuffle of accusations like we're feeling "entitled."

Since when has this entitlement issue been a prerequisite for writing about characters we love and stories we get excited about? People have been building on what others have written since storytelling came into being.

The writer presents his point of view in such a harsh, superior fashion and yet takes umbrage at MY tone (neglecting the fact that his tone (ie fanfic: SHUDDER), and I'm not sure how anyone could AFFORD to be that sensitive when they deliberately deliver such diatribes. And I'm not inclined to go to different posts where the so-called real and serious issues are presented. I've actually heard about the offense we give before now (surprise). I've actually read plenty of offended-over-fanfic posts before (gasp - I didn't know what I was doing, I swear! - maybe not).

And now, you know what? I liked the show a lot in spite of the cheese, but it's tainted with unpleasantness. Too damn bad, I guess. Hope that was a mission of his because it's accomplished. WRITER OF SHOW OFFENDS THE FANS AND DRIVES THEM OFF - well done!

And now I'm done with this. Considering the visciousness of the attitude he presented (all the while accusing us of close-mindedness), it's a waste of time. Clearly he's the expert writer. I am a simple maroon who enjoy(ed) the show and dared to think about penning my own stories about it.
Though I think Tanya Huff, thankfully (the author of the original books) has a TOTALLY different view on fan fiction (I hear she's even scouted around for some:) She just seems like a wonderful person to her fans.

Definitely seen this kind of frothing unreasoning vitriol before. Clearly fanfic stole his girlfriend in highschool and told everyone he has a small dick - there's no other explanation for such entirely irrational rage against something he knows very little about.

What an idiot. And to think that since the show is based on a series of novels, all he does is writing fan fiction, with the tiny difference that it gets filmed and ours doesn't (yeah, that difference is probably as tiny as his IQ).
Or maybe he could be jealous because fanfiction writers are more talented in their little finger than he is in his whole *gg*
