Update: It's Alive!
Dec. 27th, 2007 11:18 amIt's been awhile, so I thought an "I'm alive" post might do.
this: http://www.yuletidetreasure.org/ "The Obscure Fandom Secret Santa Project" - tons of stories, many fairly short, but it looks like there's some keepers. Blood Ties has five stories. Starsky and Hutch is not represented (I would have figured since it's 30 years old and not a huge fandom, it might make it in - Star Trek TOS and TNG did - but I have a sneaking feeling we S&Hers are SO not cool). Dante's Cove was of course not represented. I think maybe I am altogether SO NOT COOL. Who knew?
On the plus side, there's a story based on Richard Bachman's (aka Stephen King) "The Long Walk," one of my SK favorites (if not THE favorite) and it looks like it goes slashy:)
Have you ever been involved in a fandom that you're unimpressed with? Well, of course you have, but have you been in one where, if you were to describe the fandom as a whole, is not, er, particularly pleasing? As in, unimaginative, uninspired? Or maybe too young? Or they squeal A LOT and it gets on your nerves? Just asking.
I have backed away from participating actively in fandom. You may or may not have noticed. I am at yet another of my many crossroads in life. What do I want to do, how to do it, to find time and to find room to breathe? Or just give up a little and flow with the tide? How does what I want matter to others around me, and do I force it if I have to? Do I have the energy and inclination for that?
I am an outsider, which isn't all bad in that I don't mind if I see things differently from a lot of other people, really. But I am an outsider in fandom, too. No real surprise. I don't do the socializing very well. It's all very complex.
Nik and other friends I haven't responded to lately: I'm sorry and I will, I want to. I value you so much, though at the moment it may not seem that way. But things, they keep changing. Or maybe I do. Tough to keep up. I value my flist and enjoy reading what's going on with them. You are old, comfortable shoes.
That was a compliment. Trust me.
