There was a slight jolt the first time, but that kinda made Sam's emotions and pain ripping out through the narration all the more striking, really made you pay attention to each barbed wire of memory gouging his soul. (I just woke up - I'm a little over-dramatic when I'm still half-asleep).
I wouldn't worry about the jolt if I were you - the punch to the gut once realization sets in is more than enough to overcome it.
