You know what, Kass? The power of the LJ cut to intimidate is what is deshpicable (gonna steal this spelling from you more in future) in my opinion. So, if someone wants you shot, I'll be standing in front of you to take the first bullet. I think the LJ cut is hard to use, and it's hard to know (other than a story or whatever) when to use it, and that way the hell too much emphasis is placed on its importance. It's one reason why I don't play in the LJ world very much. I don't enjoy feeling like a slow learner.
Now, to more directly answer your question, yes, I think your reader with the highly evolved sense of entitlement, could have picked up an easy hint in the first sentence. Perhaps they could have even exercised some personal judgment and responsibility at that point. But, obviously, your reader needs to be spoon-fed and hand-held through life, and he feels entitled to no less--so, he had himself a little old tantrum.
