It didn't help that the main character, Ennis, looks like he's 17 at best. I thought he was on a date with his high school sweetheart, not proposing marriage when it opened. Also, it didn't help the shows' cred with me that the only female character we've seen at that point gets killed in the first ten minutes. So, of the three main female characters we got ... one was killed, one's a power-mad bitch, and the other calls herself a bitch (literally, as a werewolf female) and can only summon the strength to fight back when a guy she cares about is in danger. Why can women write awesome male characters, and men SUCK at writing strong women that aren't cliches? Also, why do all the actors look so similar now? I get that Dean and Sam are both considered attractive, esp. Jensen A., but they at least seem distinctive from each other and other characters. Maybe because they're not in a pretty environment? I don't know. I'm tired of shows aimed at 16 years olds where it's going to be basically a soap about rich people. (I'm feeling ranty.)
SPN's had their ups and downs, but I really hope they don't pursue the spin-off. The reason they do a backdoor pilot is to register interest, and sometimes it's a good time to tank a project. NCIS: Red never got off the ground (thank God) because of that. "Huggy Bear and Turkey" didn't either - also, THANK GOD! *g*
