HELP: need fiction recs in various fandoms - S&H, SPN, others (listed)

Cassandra and I are both on a tear for some dark, hot stories. I love down and dirty darkness and angst and heat. I am so in the mood for it.  Crack fic allowed and adored. I'm not too squeamish - I'll try most things, non-con included. I'd LOVE some S&H recs. I haven't read a whole lot of new work in the fandom over the last year and there's lots of older stuff I haven't covered, either.

I'm also willing to try SPN - though I've watched two episodes and can't exactly feel the love, I keep having a nagging feeling that others know something I don't.  I have the feeling there's some fiction out there that's just the ticket for me, but I'm a babe in the woods. Wouldn't you like to enable me?

I repeat for my own emphasis, I love dark stories, angst and heat and raw hot sex. I am so in the mood for it.

What else? Love my Blood Ties and would love some good fiction, too, slash or threesomes or het, whatever. Alias Smith and Jones, I feel the love. Dexter, I love, but fail to see where the crack is going to exceed the show itself (am willing to be shown the error of my ways). Brokeback Mountain, sure. The Covenant fiction would be good. I remember a nice Casino Royale fiction from astolat, but don't imagine there's much of that out there? Any Battlestar G featuring Leoben? Otherwise I probably won't be interested. Possibly X-Files - anybody have any gorgeous dark recs for that fandom? I've read nada in it. I love Mulder and Scully but would be willing to try some Mulder/ (who knew?;) I'll try a Hercules story if you get him naked and bloody and blown, etc. What else? Due South with Ray K, dark dark dark Ray K. Can Ray K be really dark?

Anything else, hm... maybe Jericho or Torchwood?

I'd appreciate you so so much for leading me astray. I need a hit!

How about the My Lover, My Hero zine for SH?

[identity profile] kassidy62.livejournal.com 2008-02-27 04:34 am (UTC)(link)
I might read that one again - it's been a while. I got that one and another one from Flamingo at the same time, both I think she called lost classics. The other one had a fuck or die, I think (could be getting one confused, though)which, yeah, my happiness. Might go look that one up again.

Was hoping you'd answer and here you are:)

I like My Lover, My Hero alot (it's dark...the end isn't really happy--to me--but others disagree)

Was hoping you'd answer and here you are:)

I'm always here. I'm like a ninja :D

a ninja! lol

Elizabeth Lowry's 'Dark Night of the Soul' - I find it infinitely preferable to (and more believeable than) MLMH.

but then, I think we may have had this convo before :)

That's the other one I was talking to Kimberly about but couldnt remember the name (so so baaad at the names, Moon). Yep, that's definitely gonna fit the bill for a re-read:)

well.. a good conversation bears repeating, like for emphasis, right?

SPN! I can definitely rec SPN, except that though I love angst, I am not so much in to dark. Which means I can rec angsty but not dark, or I can rec the very few darker stories I know - which aren't really typical of the fandom so won't necessarily give you a great feel for the fic. There's lots of darker fic in this fandom; it's just not usually my thing.

(And, incidentally, SPN has always been an uneven show and the first half of its first season wasn't very great ... you kind of have to watch starting with the Pilot and going chronologically, and keep going even though you don't understand what the fuss is about, until you get to the first couple of episodes of the second season. Because that's about the time you will be crazy in love with the show and if you're not -- you know you never will be.)

Anyhoo, assuming you're okay with Sam/Dean pairing - which is the primary pairing in the fandom - you can try some of these. Not sure how well they'll come across if you aren't familiar with the show, and I'm not sure how well they meet your requirements, but you can try:

I love angst and I know the brothers are the show's pairing, that's fine. I really appreciate your effort, also for the advice about the show, because I've been wanting to give it another try. Just figured I'd go from the start this time and see how it goes.

For angsty DS stories, check out [livejournal.com profile] ds_team_angst. I haven't read a lot of them because too much angst can be too much for me but the folks who did read them raved about them.

And if you need an antidote for all the angst, [livejournal.com profile] ds_team_romance. I have read all the F/K ones and they are fabulous.

I had no idea there was a comm set up for DS angst, but I knew some of you could show me the way:) Thanks so much!

I've read a lot of X-Files slash. There is a great archive of it here:

http://basement.ditb.org/

You can search on category and pairing to find lots of angsty stuff. I prefer both Mulder/Krycek, Mulder/Skinner, but have also read some good Krycek/Skinner and even some with Doggett and 3- and 4-somes.

I recommend anything by Xanthe, Mort/Morticia (I think they are the same person), Grey, and Diana Williams (she has a great BDSM series that is also very angsty).

JoB has a good site of her own for X-Files, but she has a lot of Mpreg stuff (although I liked her Life from the Ashes series):

Enjoy!

thanks so much, Gryph, and hope you had happy happy birthday yesterday.

I guess I'll just have to write you some. Let me drink some glass shards and watch Brokeback again . . . really, this gives me good excuse.

[identity profile] kassidy62.livejournal.com 2008-02-27 04:53 pm (UTC)(link)
It's funny, I had the biggest urge to rewatch "Brokeback" the week before Heath Ledger died. I'd just recorded a movie called "Candy" with him, too. I've put off watching them, but not much longer.

You'd drink glass for me? Aw! Now I'm afraid you'll make me all emotional.

Aren't you into Torchwood, too, Kaye? Or did I dream it?

[identity profile] peg22.livejournal.com 2008-02-27 04:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh I'm way into the Torchwood! If only for the weekly boy kissing. You want some Torchwood darkness?

I heard Candy is tres tres dark.

Of course I'd drink glass for you . . . oh I mean drink OUT of a glass - my bad!

[identity profile] kassidy62.livejournal.com 2008-02-27 05:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll take it, bay bay. I'll take it. I like me some Captain. I love THE kiss, but as I said before, I'm still trying to banish Whiny Ianto from Lisa days. Put the Captain in some angst and suffering and give me Ianto and/or Captain Jack and I'll be happy happy happy.

Is that a "Californication" icon? Good show, pretty damned funny.

Here is some XF that ranks pretty high in my all time fav fic of ever. Torch just writes so well.

My favorite all time fic:

Thank you, I appreciate it! Yum, and a novel. Are these slash or no? I'll try either, just curious.

[identity profile] simonesa.livejournal.com 2008-02-27 05:12 pm (UTC)(link)
All Slash All the Time. That's my motto. I have very low tolerance for het.

[identity profile] thayln.livejournal.com 2008-03-12 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I used to read extensively in X-Files, but I was a definate MSR shipper. I did occasionally dabble in some slash and threesomes. This was my first exposure to slash. If you're still interested I can point you at some of my old favorites:

MustangSally - great voice, dark angsty sex and suprising humor.
http://fluky.gossamer.org/author/10861-1.html

Lisby - threesomes, MSR, Mulder/Skinner. She's got an unfinished non-com somewhere where Mulder is taken for a sex slave, but I've long since lost it. But that kind of tells you how far she'll go.
http://fluky.gossamer.org/author/11246-1.html

Wintersong - Start with "Communication" and "The Games We Play". The Lost series is an absolutely fascinating look at their partnership but it never gets quite as far as sex. Read it anyway.
http://fluky.gossamer.org/author/14834-1.html

My very favorite X-Files writer is Karen Rasch. She's not always angsty, but damn her characterizations were dead on, and the sex was hot, hot, hot. Sometimes she even gets kinky. Oh, and she writes good plot, too. I'd start with "No Greater Love", which should have been filmed, dammit. Then dive into the "Words" series.
http://fluky.gossamer.org/author/10046-1.html

And here's a kinky M/S/K thingy with non-con and such. *eg*
"Making his Marks, by Satina

Oh, and you might also like Amperage.
http://fluky.gossamer.org/author/11985-1.html

If you manage to get through all of these and still want more let me know. Like I said, I used to read a lot of X-Files.

Love ya,
t

Well crap. I forgot Lydia Bower.
http://fluky.gossamer.org/author/11472-1.html

Start with this one. It's really good and dark.
http://fluky.gossamer.org/cgi-bin/read.cgi?MidWinterThaw.Bower

Then read everything else she wrote. "Dance Without Sleeping" is considered by many to be the cancer arc story.

Stopping now...

*sits on hands*

but you just started!

[identity profile] kassidy62.livejournal.com 2008-03-13 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
I'm so glad to hear from you, first off:) 2nd off, rube alert: what's MSR - Mulder Scully er? I know I'll probably be embarrassed at my own dumbassedness but I'm asking anyway.

I love Mulder/Scully. I can read slash nearly always and enjoy, but they're OTP for me. Think I'll try that Mid Winter Thaw first. Thanks a lot!

I think I migh be getting into spn some, though it's strangely slow to catch me up. Still I found one insanely dark fiction I love, and I love the sort of horror-angsty mood of the show.

What've you been up to?
