Sam doesn't really factor! (I know, sacrilege!)
As to your comparsion...
Dean and Starsky have similarities certainly - not least the bandy legs ;P
Sam and Hutch? It's not *as* obvious to me, but I guess it is there!
(And no that doesn't mean that John is Dobey!!!)
