uh...looking at this, I see I've used "afterward" a couple of times as a hook to get a reader (hopefully) wondering "after what?" There's some short sentences there for punch until there's...not:)

Hellooo, tagged by the lovely [livejournal.com profile] laughablelament, a new friend: seven lines from the seventh page of my longest WIP. I'm going with Book II of Rising Wolf (sequel to Beneath the Neon Moon) because Book I was done some months ago--

Kane moved in close, wiry, smaller than Zach, eager grin on his face. He ducked his head into the curve between Zach's shoulder and neck and breathed in. "Ah, that's nice. I missed your scent, Zach. Well, not that I ever thought I'd get to smell it again, or see you, since, well, you should be dead."

"I really hope you're amusing yourself," Zach husked, letting a tremor come through his voice. He eased his hands from behind his back.

No pressure, my wonderful flisters, but I'd love to see what [livejournal.com profile] tipitiwitchet (I know I can't see my gift fic, of course, but something else?), [livejournal.com profile] hardboiledbaby (and oh my GOD, I just realized I didn't wish you a happy birthday! Hope it was as incredible as you are!) [livejournal.com profile] loyseofverlaine, [livejournal.com profile] duluthgirl, [livejournal.com profile] gryphon2k (I saw you POSTED on your story!! Let me see more;), [livejournal.com profile] blackrabbit42, and [livejournal.com profile] marianrose are up to:)

I had to think a bit about this final day - something I'm really proud of? I am proud of some of my work when I do it, but later on I pick it to death, or doubt if it's good, you know? So for me I'd say it's hard to maintain that sort of positivity over the long haul. There's a couple of stories that I like quite a bit, a couple of vids I'm fond of, but out and out proud? I just don't know. But then I remembered my second (and last) zine! A massive Starsky and Hutch anthology entitled Blood and Destiny.

I stayed up way too late for months in a row, learning layout and how to do bleeds for print, and editing (I WISH I hadn't been quite so anti-comma at the time, but oh, well) - the point is, I ended up with a 550 page (293,000 word count) Starsky & Hutch anthology: a perfect bound, paperback book.

I learned a lot, worked with a lot of talented people, including Sonja T, my lovely friend who does most of the artwork for my original fiction nowadays. She put in an incredible number of art pieces into the zine, over twenty (and she did almost as many for the first zine I did). I had some brilliant writers participate in the anthology with seventeen new stories, trivia and reprints. It was truly a learning experience, and I'm proud of the book and of the work and skill of the participants involved.

small fandom/character/pairing - Alias Smith and Jones
ah, ASJ, how I love that show. Riffing off of Butch and Sundance, the show aired in 1971-1973 (in the second year one of the leads, Pete Duel, tragically committed suicide, but the show went on with a replacement - though not for long). The chemistry between Duel and Ben Murphy holds up and then some to this day. The two main characters are the quick-draw Kid Curry (with the curly hair) and his partner, the sly, intelligent Heyes (with his "silver tongue," as the Kid described it). I've never seen two guys who can yell at each other and still maintain a palpable sense of adoration for each other, every single moment, until I saw these two.

Best episode ever: The Bounty Hunter (with Louis Gossett, Jr.)

This is a vid I did, back when I was still doing them.

I have been into some weird little shows, many rather obscure. SPN might be the only truly large fandom I've participated in - a different experience altogether, and with so many talented writers at first I found it intimidating to post stories. Pretty much from the start, I've seen Sam and Dean as my OTP.

Something for a large fandom/pairing/character, then, is this SPN story, Sam/Dean:

Diamond Dogs is a short, kind of stylized piece, hopefully with some strongly evoked visuals. Prompt was "werewolfism - one turns and takes the other down."

The Days:

1. Something old
2. Something new - talk about a new fanwork of yours!
3. Something you made for someone else
4. Something you made just for yourself
5. Something for a large fandom/pairing/character
6. Something for a small fandom/pairing/character
7. Something you're just really proud of

something just for myself - I'm abysmal at digital arts, but I can crop pretty well:) So I made myself some comic book wallpapers. If you want any of these in full size let me know, I share! Mine are 1366 x 768 if I can get them to that size, but frequently I can't, depending on source. So I use a black or white background color and select the 'fit to desktop' option for my wallpaper. (Update - I don't remember how I got the Wonder Woman wallpaper, so I'm not claiming it, but I love it! I cropped most of the others out of digital comics, except for that last one - wish I could remember where I found the art, or who did it.)

got this from [livejournal.com profile] quickreaver - thought it might be nice to try and post a bit. We'll see if I follow through for all seven days.

Something old

A screengrab I did, nothing fancy, just warmed it up and put the character names/ship on it. From the first short season of Dante's Cove, unbearably cheesy but charming. The scenes with Toby and Kevin highlighted their chemistry - they were incendiary.  The Turks and Caicos islands, where they filmed that first year, was gorgeous and had a certain mystique - haunting and a bit spooky. I actually had a wonderful email relationship with Sam Irving, the director for quite a while.

oh, here's another I did of Kevin in the hospital (it was such a hilarious hospital, not the least bit realistic) - for if you're having a bad day!

It's either 'bad fucking day' or 'bad day fucking,' ha:)

1. Reply to this post and I will pick five of your icons.
2. Make a post (including the meme info) and talk about the icons I chose.
3. Other people can then comment to you and make their own posts.
4. This will create a never-ending cycle of icon glee.

these are the icons [livejournal.com profile] tebtosca picked for me to talk about:
1.

This is Sam Winchester, of course, and the icon is by [livejournal.com profile] spiffydaze. Anybody who knows me at all knows that I adore the character of Sam Winchester and admire the actor who plays him. This icon in particular is a favorite of mine because of the sculpted look of it, which highlights Jared's very lovely cheekbones and jaw, his chin, brow - hell, everything. I do think the man looks as beautiful as a piece of art, and interestingly, that he seems to respond to that himself by projecting the very opposite of that, with his frequent beard growth, messy, pretty hair and casual dress. Home boy, y'all - or so he projects.

A Supernatural Meme!

My Favourite Season Is:

I don't have a favorite, though sometimes I think I enjoyed a greater number of S2 episodes... anyway, I like Season 1 and most of 2 for what I feel is fairly consistent characterization, pacing and a sense of purpose for the mytharc. Dislike for some episodes that are real stinkers (Wendigo, ugh, least favorite episode ever, and Bugs and Hook Man).

S3 falls short in the beginning with shallow, off-putting Dean characterization and ineffectual Samage (which continues throughout much of the season and is a disservice to the character, IMO) and a general lack of cohesion/vision/purpose for the show. Mix THAT up with diamonds like "Mystery Spot," "A Very SPN Xmas," and "Bad Day at Black Rock" and you've got a wildly fluctuating season. Still, I enjoyed most episodes even while critting them to death - the actors kept growing and the brotherly moments are always da bomb.
Add missteps like semi-regulars Bela (and a complete inability to sell her as either interesting or sympathetic) and Ruby ( I liked her more as the season went on though she was pretty one-note until the last episode of 3), both of them young 'n' pretty with neither the depth or presence of an Ellen or a Pamela, and you can call time of death on that little experiment almost before it started.
Having said all that? The last episode in S3 wrung me the hell out and hung me out to dry. It was some really good crack shit.

S4 amps it all up. Couldn't get a handle on Sam's head in the beginning episodes, which made me unhappy (being all Sam!crazy like I am). It was like whatever was going on with him was being hidden from the viewer, which, huh? The angels were interesting until that crazy literal stuff involving Anna in 4.10 losing her grace and hurtling to the ground, etc. Waaa? The more angels I see, the less I like - I think because no one is measuring up even halfway to Castiel. Still, the show found its balls or something. Yeah, or something - I gotta give them credit for throwing all the cards up in the air. Loved Sam's one-man show in "I Know What You Did Last Summer." Dying to see if they make a serious attempt at dealing with his demon blood and the consequences for him and Dean. Dying to know exactly why Castiel brought our Dean back from the land of fire and brimstone. And please, can I just say how happy I was to see him *happy* in Monster Movie, before they amped his angst back up again?

My Favourite Episode Is/episodes are:
I named a few I love above. Add No Rest for the Wicked, Born Under a Bad Sign, Croatoan, Metamorphosis (yes I know some of you are going huh? Croatoan, Metamorph? but yeah), Hunted, Tall Tales, All Hell Breaks Loose, OH SHIT, there's many many more I truly love even if they aren't my very favorites and who can tell from this list anyway blabbity blab...

I Cry everytime:
Nope, I don't.

The Religious Angle In Season 4:
Wait and see sez me, but kinda not having faith in it. I hope very much that it works out.

The "Special Children" Storyline:
Once they put it in there, they should have done justice to it and gave us a logical, satisfying conclusion as to their purpose and why they had to die. They just wiped them out with an explanation thin as tissue and spit and it pisses me off. It's a cheat.

Ruby:
I liked Katie Cassidy all right and I liked her quite a bit in the S3 finale, but I never thought she was irreplacable. Until our new Ruby, which ouch, now I miss Katie MOAR. BUT...new Ruby, she's a crap actor and somehow I still kind of like Genevieve (even though she honestly makes me wince at times). I know, I know, shoot me. There's never been a nice straight ruler for my tastes. I like the bad, I like the good and even the embarrassing -  who knows why?

Bela:
Bela who? She just never made much of an impression.

Lillith:
I liked that mean little girl with the gap-tooth smile. What a bitchy kid! Now where the hell did SHE GO? Show? Anybody?

The Episode(s) that Really Creeped Me Out:
I have a major eyeball phobia, as in near psychotic, so Nightmare most definitely, but only because of that. Loved the scarecrow in Scarecrow, he looked great and the orchard was spooky-ooky.  Loved Simon Said for that GREAT scene with the blonde lady in the trenchcoat dousing herself with gasoline and setting herself on fire (er it was Simon Said, right?).

My Theory On How The Show Will End:
Sam's not evil. Dean's gained self-worth. They drive off into the sunset in the Impala. Sam will always be a freak to Dean (who loves him).
Okay, I like the part about driving off into the sunset in the Impala, but hope like hell they go down Angsty Road and make Sam EVIL first, make us throw up our own hearts and EAT THEM in the process of straightening it all out, show Dean he's truly the good guy and give him some healing. But how to make Sam evil and not damage him irreparably? As in how could he live with himself? No cheats allowed, but I'm sure it could be done. Couldn't it?
Hell, the show's already messed both these guys up irreparably.  I don't see how they get up every day. So.
Part of me (small small part - the same part that wrote that short, unhappy story about it) wants Sam to go so evil bad that there's no going back. But then the problem is THAT I WOULD DIE OF WOEFUL-ILITY, SADNESS AND MORBIDITY. Because at heart I'm a WIMP and can't take the sad (unless I'm dishing it out, ha).
BUT BUT BUT! Better that they end it badly than that Sam and Dean settle into suburbia with house, white picket fences and 2.5 children. Because I know the show's about horror, folks, but please no. Those guys would be total strangers to me.
